Re: behringer UCA202 vs UFO202

Couple of differences. Straight, plain turntables are three-wire devices. Left sound, right sound, and grounding strap. The UFO-202 has a place to screw the grounding wire. Screen Shot 2020-04-01 at 16.39.51.png The UCA-202 has a switch so you can listen to the computer playback with or without the ...

Re: Acx-check Problems

While you're doing all that, talk about your setup. The "S" word (studio) makes people nervous. I don't need a studio. I just need a comfortable, air conditioned, quiet room with no echoes. If you solve the room problems, it almost doesn't matter what you record on. https://www.kozco.com/t...

Mojave 10.14.6
Do Not upgrade your computer. Catalina (10.15) is a convenience for Apple, not us.

Re: Acx-check Problems

No text file. It's a stand-alone plugin. You don't need the whole display. That's just for obsessive engineers. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/ACX-Check_Success2.jpg ACX Check needs at least 3/4 second of pure, clean background sound to get a good measurement. Just 'not reading' won't do it...

Re: How do I get my noise floor to -60db?

My wife was doing something downstairs when I recorded the audacity test..that was the "hammer" you heard. Let me read that back to you. The whole house has to stop what they're doing when you read? It wasn't just the obvious loud bang. There were many other odd noises. Getting through a ...

Re: How do I get my noise floor to -60db?

To dig deeper. What's the computer and where is it? What's the possibility you're not recording your Yeti? That's the kind of noise you might get if you're really recording your laptop built-in microphone. It's omni-directional and might record sound from all over and not just straight in front. Sta...

Re: How do I get my noise floor to -60db?

Meeting noise at home is not easy, but it can be done. I shot a ACX voice test using this setup moved into my quiet bedroom. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/ZoomH1nTechnicalSetup.jpg That's a Zoom sound recorder. I still have to miss the metrobus going by—it shakes the house—but my test meet...

Re: How do I get my noise floor to -60db?

I boosted your two second Silent, Room Tone segment. Audacity-TestNoiseBoosted.mp3 This is the segment that's supposed to be you motionless and holding your breath. I expect only the gentle shshshshs of the microphone noise. I can hear you breathing and moving around and it sounds like somebody is a...

Re: How do I get my noise floor to -60db?

We're making a big deal about this because even if we solve everything with software patches and adjustments, you have to remember to apply all the patches to everything you produce, forever . Much better to find out where the noises are coming from and fix the hardware or room. If you have a simple...

We'll get a better idea what's happening when you post the sound test.

Don't ad lib. It's important you follow the instructions.
