Re: very wired sound

<<<Is there a way to clean something like this>>> Can we assume the original was somebody playing natural instruments, not electronic music? I'm going with no. Someone created a very damaged sound file. It could be sampling errors or a marginal sound file that sounded OK to listen to straight, but o...

Re: Accuracy of track lengths in Audacity

All these numbers are fuzzy because the actual performance depends totally on the accuracy of the crystal oscillator on the motherboard and another one on the sound card. Both of those oscillators cost 3 cents when the boards were built, and many manufacturers think that's way too much. It's not unu...

<<<The fix turned out to be that the Mac operating system was set to "case sensitive".>>> OS-X is a UNIX-based operating system. It's always case sensitive. I've never gotten a download that didn't have an upper case "A" in the filenames. <<<Audacity.app/Contents/MacOS>>> There i...

Re: Noise removal

<<<How can I applicate 'Noise Removal' effect only for those parts which should be silent?>>> You can struggle with that, or you can install Audacity 1.3 which has enormously better noise tools. You can have 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine at the same time, you just can't use them at the same time. I do...

Re: I need help!

You have an evaluation copy of the AVS editor. You should write them a check and they will give you a license key.

Audacity doesn't do any of those things.

Re: TOO MUCH DISTORTION!!!!!

<<<because we used Audacity in a previous band and it worked great.>>> On a different computer, right? If you're plugged into the audio input of a typical Windows Laptop, that connection is designed for a very delicate, low sound level microphone, not a weapons grade high level sound feed. So that's...

Re: How to avoid clipping when downmixing 5.1 to Stereo?

I'm curious how you got the mix. How, for example, did you deal with the vocal track in the middle? What was the forumla? NewLeft = LeftFront + 1/2 Center NewRight = RightFront + 1/2 Center Delete LR, RR, LFE That's how I would have mixed it down. YMMV. If you're compulsive about it you can mix some...

Re: Error opening project

Some versions of Audacity on some Macs have trouble with 24-bit. Reset the preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and restart Audacity. See if the problems don't vanish. You can change back and experiment with it later. <<<No way to download it>>> Right-click on the filename? Wait until it downloads f...

Re: aux/line in 2

If you have settings that seem to change themselves, you may need to do a virus scan. I mean a real one where you turn your computer over to it for an hour, not the little one that lives in the background. Also Microsoft has an on-line virus checker that you can run in addition to yours. Error check...

Re: Error When Recording-Vista

96000 is a slightly oddball sample rate. I would reset the preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo, restart Audacity and see if that doesn't help. You can go up to higher rates and bits later once you get it working. Higher bit standards give you lower noise and higher overload threshold, and increasin...
