Re: Minidisc Player with optical conection
<<<as well as song titles are copied too.>>> Not from the CD. RedBook Music CDs don't carry any MetaData like song titles. The designers were perfectly delighted to smash the music on there in a simplified WAV format, never mind song titles. <<via optical connection>>> I wondered about that. The Lin...

Re: saving vocals-'removing music'
<<<Remove as much of the music as possible from a track (mono or stereo)>>> No. You will be doing this with a stereo track. All the tools available make use of the separation information missing in a mono track. With mono, you're cooked. The simple tools only work with "Stuff In The Middle.&quo...

Re: Hang when importing aiff file
<<<straight off a (commercial) Audio CD>>> Good to know that earlier. Those aren't either WAV or AIFF. Those are special CDA format and they have to be ripped to work. I disagree completely with OS-X insisting they're normal AIFF files. They're not, as you found out. Change the iTunes import prefere...

I'm goin' with the cat.
Audacity will quit if it either runs out of hard drive space or can't get to the space it has due to fragmentation. Audacity will not work into a fragmented hard drive.

Re: Export to MP3 adds 'chirp' to file
Does it still do it if you Effect > Normalize > Remove DC before you encode?
Turn the other normalize settings off.

Re: Ripping/Stripping/Copying Audio Track from movie DVD
Total Recorder will capture any PC sound and make files. If you're careful with your preferences, the files drop right into Audacity for cutting.

Re: USB sound card with decent Stereo Mix?
I regularly use WireTap for the Mac and Total Recorder for the PC to capture anything either machine is playing. No external hardware required. Total Recorder is up to "World Domination Edition," but you can find older versions of Pro and Studio and they work just fine. VersionTracker is y...

Re: Weird clicking sound...
<<<a weird clicking sound during playback.>>> Especially if it wanders, the machine is probably struggling to play back the show. Ever defragment your hard drive? How full is it? Wrong answers to either of those questions can cause all sorts of timing problems and instabilities. <<<It wasnt doing it...

Re: Hang when importing aiff file
That's not an AIFF file. That's a WAV file. WAV files have a Little Endian structure, AIFF files have a Big Endian structure. Otherwise they're pretty much identical. If you have the wrong file extension, it will drive Audacity nuts. Do you have OS-X set to show you file extensions? This may be a go...
