Re: New to editing - help!
"Open" and "Save" in Audacity are not opposites of each other like they are everywhere else. Here you can Open a sound file and Export to get another sound file with your changes in it. Audacity saves Projects which are great if you're cutting a large show, but for day to day use...

Re: Cut and Paste Problems
I got stuck with that once. There is a setting at the bottom of the 1.3 work window called Snap To. You need to turn that off--or make it be all zeros. Mine got stuck in one minute jumps.
I'll deal with the other questions when I get back.

Re: 1.2.6 Crashing consistently with large number of tracks
And in case we missed saying these specific words, Audacity 1.2 and 1.3 can coexist on the same machine as long as you don't open both at once. As above, the machine may just run out of resources at that point. Really Strange things happen when you produce a show at the outer limits -- See: "I ...

Re: Home Audio logs
There is one completely oddball way to do this, too. Movies are shot with one movie camera. When Rick in "Casablanca" is talking to Ilsa, there is a camera over her shoulder shooting him and his lines. Then everybody breaks for lunch and when they come back, they move the camera to his sho...

Re: Home Audio logs
You couldn't find any information about how to do that because nobody can do that. The big kids do that by putting either a chest microphone or a full communication headset (with microphone) on each person and record them on separate audio tracks. Audacity will do that--up to 16 tracks, but it's up ...

Re: new user not able to record from external mic
First, I would back off the crazy audio standards, at least until you get it to work the first time. Reset Audacity Preferences for 44100 and 16 bit. Restart Audacity. Here's how I got my USB microphone to work. This is a cousin to what you're doing. USB Microphone http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/USB...

Re: How do I import new audio at the end?
You did put the cursor at the end of the existing track before you Imported, right?

Re: How do I import new audio at the end?
I think if you Open rather than Import, you'll get a new track. Select All copy and paste wherever you want it.

<<<...and plenty of hard drive space.>>> What's that in numbers? Error check? Defrag? Audacity will not work into a highly fragmented hard drive. Has this size project ever worked? Does it work on a different machine? Are you totally sure all your sound files are clean? Did you personally make them ...

Re: Removing wow from recording of a warped LP
The short answer is no. Trying to do it manually will drive you nuts and that's only to correct any volume changes. You can do that with the outline tool in the upper left tool box. Correcting the actual wow requires fading the pitch change tool in and out at the right times. I'm going with you can'...
