Re: Batch processing .au files into one track
Sure, but you still may not get the whole show back. Audacity Projects consist of all the stuff you have plus all the original clips and imported segments. You can't move projects. There was one woman in Schenectady who managed to move a project between computers once, but she's an anomaly and it wa...

Re: cant record using the line in
A bass guitar doesn't have a lot of zot (technical term) coming out of the cable. I mean, we're talking waving a steel wire around in front of a magnet. We're not going to blow very many houses down with that. So we need to amplify it before it gets to the Mac. A lot of performers at work run the gu...

Re: opening files
But if you open the same file up in Windows Media, you get the whole two hours?

Re: How to make "distorted vocals"?
It's not like the older analog amplifiers where you could hurt something by overloading the sound channels. In a computer, overload or clipping is effectively where all the digital sound numbers go to "1" and no further information is possible. There ways to cause damage, but they involve ...

Re: Mac OS X 10.5.6 - will it work?
Don't donate the old machine until the new one works. I have the entirely old-fashioned notion that the job should dictate the machine and software, not the other way 'round.

Re: Mac OS X 10.5.6 - will it work?
Let's see. G4 running OS-X 10.3 Panther. Getting on in years. We have one Panther machine left in the department because we use an odd tool in Quicktime that Apple "fixed" in later versions. <<<the disc says version 3.0.>>> No doubt ION software because Audacity never got beyond 1.3.7. 1.3...

Re: Optimal MP3 settings
Oops. My bad. The two-pass thing is with M4A, not MP3. I went down through all million pages of man lame and there is no option for dual pass. However, I can document the others. <<<So one should explicitly downsample to 16 bits before making an MP3?>>> Yes. We had a posting where a voice performer ...

Re: a general voice editing question
It's a cousin to the problem of sampling for a digital keyboard. You don't need to sample all the keys, you just need one about every three notes and do pitch shifting from there. Even at that, you can usually hear it working. Between the magic two jump keys it sounds like a slightly different piano...

Re: Interview subjects talk too loudly!
I hate working in a vacuum. It makes my ears pop.
<<<Ooh that's weird>>>
Not if you're recording the choir and organ at St. Pats on Fifth Avenue, it's not. That's what, sixteen foot flute stop about E or F pedal to the left of your left knee.
Perfectly normal.

Re: records
There have been other complaints about that. The trigger that senses the lead-out groove on records is broken or badly adjusted. Go read your warranty and see if that kind of damage is covered. We can do nothing for you.
