Re: removing part of the track that don't want?
<<<2) Also am I right in saying there is no customer support for audacity? Is there ever likely to be any?>>> No, and you're looking at it. Anybody can do this. When you get further along in your skill, you can drop in and correct somebody that's not as good as you are. <<<3) Also what is the differ...

Re: cant record using the line in
Sorry I'm not right on top of this. I had to sit down with the machines and do a system analysis and that takes time. While you have the Preference panel with the sound meter open, plug and unplug the sound cable from the side or back of the Mac. There should be a disturbance--a bounce--in the sound...

Re: I only want to record my voice
One other point, since you missed it. "Mix Out" captures the sound on the way to either the speakers or the headphones. Doesn't matter if they're plugged in or turned on or not. The act of sending sound to the output service is what gets recorded.

Re: I only want to record my voice
One of the fun things that happens with Windows machines is they change depending on what the manufacturer thinks is a "feature." Some machines have "Mix-Out" (total machine output) and some don't. That can be a problem as well. On my machine, I have to be careful not to change t...

Re: Capturing playback audio: Record in stereo/mono?
<<<Stereo/Mono.>>> It's possible only one of those is going to work at all. A lot of web work is mono, especially it's spoken word. WAV is uncompressed and undamaged. It's as close to the original performance as you can get, but it's large, slow, and takes up a lot of hard drive space. MP3 and its c...

Re: Can I Pull Cursor To Particular Location In Track?
You can slide a track left and right with the Time Shift Tool or Project > Align Tracks. There is only one cursor and that one settles wherever you click in the timeline. Audacity 1.3 has the ability to click above the timeline and start playing immediately from there. Audacity will not scrub no mat...

Re: How can I reduce size of mp3 file output
In Audacity 1.2, you had to change the quality and size in Preferences > File Formats. In 1.3, I think you can do it at the export step. Your current export settings (bit rates) are much more graceful than the settings in the original file, so you get the odd effect of having the shortened export fi...

Re: Voice to midi
<<<Are You suggesting to look at overtones (harmonics)?>>> I'm suggesting you should tell me how you're getting from digitized audio signals to MIDI instruction sets. That's the hard part. Everything else you're doing is pretty straightforward audio processing. Once we know the end, we can suggest w...

Re: what is the highest sampling rate
Without actually answering you, I can tell you you're in the wrong Audacity. All the advanced features are in 1.3.x. Audacity 1.2 was designed and produced just after The Reformation in Europe and it's pretty basic. Further, even if the software does support it, the hardware has to do it, too. So it...

Re: CRASH after installing AUDACITY.
We had a machine do that in the video department. Someone captured a video without looking at how full the system disk was and it was already at 99%. It killed the machine. Will it open up in Target Mode? Start the machine while holding the "T" key down. You get a FireWire symbol floating ...
