No personal experience.

They claim format support with both Tiger, Leopard, and Intel Universal and that's usually enough to get the show into Mac Audacity.

Just a note. You say MP3 files made in Audacity won't play, either. Did they play seconds after you made them? You can mess up Audacity Projects to the point that they don't export a working sound file in any format. For example, if you capture a long live performance and export to WAV immediately, ...

You can get selective insanity like that if you try to use punctuation marks in your filenames. Only two punctuation marks allowed, the underscore and the dash. Everything else is forbidden. I don't use spaces, either. Monday/Tuesday's Recordings.wav is completely forbidden. Monday-Tuesday_Recording...
