Re: Webcam recordings being 'Cut'
Without causing a "D'oh" moment, are you recording from your computer's ratty built-in microphone instead of your high-quality production one? Check out the Windows Sound Control Panel and see if you can figure out which microphone is actually creating the show. My machine does that on occ...

Re: Editing problem
Yes, that makes me crazy, too. The Shortcut that helps here is Control (Apple)-E to take you back into the silence and Control (Apple)-3 to zoom out slightly, more or less where you started.
That's far faster than select-zooming back to where you think you were.

Several people noticed some entertaining fiction happening when Audacity manages file types. You're fine as long as you never interact with other pr...

Re: After export to 24 bit WAV, import is clipped
Try to make the recording in 16-bit 44100 as a test. I bet that recording sails right through the pipeline. 24-bit is turning out to be serious magic and it doesn't always behave like you think. I do live recording at 48000, 16 bit and I've been very successful with client deliveries--and I'm workin...

Re: Cannot record - Mixer tool bar inactive
The first step is almost always getting Windows to figure it out first, and then Audacity is pretty simple.

Re: How do I record on two different tracks at once?
Yes. You basically can't do that because the VOIP modules grab and hold all the sound services and you lose on Sport's Call®. Someone mentioned the "Pamela" software package to do this and yes, one of the VOIP companies makes software that will do it, too.

Re: Recorded Sound is Semitone Higher/Lower
<<<urgent!!!>>> Urgent in this case is 24-hours because that's as long as it takes the question to ripple around the Earth. If you are capturing a live musical performance in Audacity and then playing it back, then any pitch or sound changes can be laid at the feet of a ratty sound card. Audacity is...

<<<I just the temp files were never made.>>> Oh, no. Nobody was expecting those to be there. I mean the search for another audio program. Remember? You said you were going to search for a more stable audio program for your work and I asked you to report back if you found anything. Koz

Re: Native audio formats
Audio Compact Disks are actually in a WAV-like format (CDA) with a lot of the WAV pieces missing. It would be like trying to cram a book into a very small space. The first thing you would do is rip off the cardboard binding, the portrait of the author, the fronts piece, the copyright page, most of t...

Re: how to export raw data to Matlab?
Not in Audacity (that I know of), but you might be able to get the data from a hex editor. This is Hex Fiend opening up my piano2.wav file on a Mac. http://www.kozco.com/tech/hexfiend.jpg Of course you'll need to know exactly what the file format is ahead of time and it can't be compressed. No MP3 f...
