Re: hum removal

Let's try it this way. Download piano2.wav from here... http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html ...and put it on a timeline by itself. It's a six second piano solo. Some of my best work (my only work). Drag select one of the piano notes, doesn't matter which one, open Noise Removal and Get Profile...

Re: Audacity 1.3.7 crashes while compressing

<<<isn't a bug exactly>>> A Bug is a defined event. Unintentional evil software action or event easily reproducible on multiple different computers by multiple different people at any time. It doesn't have to fail on all machines, but it gets everybody's attention if, say, ten people from around the...

Re: marking edit points / scrub function?

<<<I can't see why people find the concept so difficult.>>> I can. It involves being able to set an edit point by playing the show backwards at the wrong speed. Can your mom do that? I can. Turns out only the old tape editors can do that and we're dying off at an accelerated pace. All the developers...

Re: hum removal

Profile step. It's sometimes necessary to edit a bit to get enough hum for the profile to chew on. Edit out some words so only the hum between words remains. Use that edit to get the profile and then either close the clip without saving or UNDO your way back to the original show.

Re: hum removal

<<<Didn't seem to make much difference.>>> Then you did something wrong. Settings like that should have destroyed your show. Noise Removal is a slave to the profile step. You must select as much Hum as you can on the timeline without getting any performance in the selection. Play your selection befo...

Re: Police Radio

By that most people mean the radio on the cop's hip, not the dispatcher which doesn't sound the same. The thing that puts "Police Radios" over for an audience is context. The hero says, "Wait, listen to the police radio." Everything after that will sound like a police radio wheth...

Wait. 1.3.5 doesn't zoom out full and 1.3.7 does?

Re: hum removal

Not in Audacity 1.2. The noise removal tools in 1.3.7 are very much better at this and you can put both 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine as long as you only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open up in 1.2. Select a segment with only hum. Effect > Noise Removal > Get Profile. Select the w...

Re: identify voice and eliminate

This is a cousin to the next question up from here (on my screen). http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=9054 I don't know of any software other than from Law Enforcement that can identify a particular person in the middle of a sound production by their voice. And nobody can suck th...

Re: Stereo Exporting = Underwater Sound?

MP3 and other audio compression programs get their smaller file size by damaging the performance. They all do it to some degree. Extreme compression produces damage bad enough to be heard by anybody. Gargling, bubbling, any Sirius or XM radio broadcast. WAV formats are used for production. MP3 and o...
