Where did you get the numbers from? The only defined points I know about are from the web site at 1061, 3183, and 20000. And the two time constant numbers, of course.
Given enough calculations, you can get back and forth between them.
That makes my head hurt...

Re: Apply De-emphasis?
We are exposing one shortcoming of Audacity and that's the need to manually edit the equalizing curves. Get a strong cup of coffee. <curve name="RedBookPre"> <point f="700.000135021151" d="0.000000000000"/> <point f="1000.101652520304" d="-0.500512741089&...

Re: cleaning voice track
<<<Traffic noise will be tough since it's probably not very consistent.>>> I would go with impossible. The noise removal tools depend on the bad sound not changing over the course of the performance. So we can get rid of that low level air conditioning whine for twenty minutes or ventilation fan rum...

Re: Recording Vocals

Re: buzzing noise....
You may just not have the headphone volume up far enough. Open up Audacity and click once inside the red recording meters. They will wake up and monitor the incoming sound without you having to go into full record. Play the tape and adjust the headphone volume until the meters bounce just short of 0...

Re: Apply De-emphasis?
OK. I found the PDF (on an insanely slow server) and as soon as it comes down, I'll see if I can sweet talk Steve into writing it.

Re: Weak signal from microphone
Does the MicPre have a place to put a headphone or does it have a level meter or flashing light? One of the problems with a Tube MicPre is tubes have a life. I don't mean they have a girlfriend and go out to the pub on occasion, I mean they die. Everybody forgets that you used to be able to buy tube...

Re: Apply De-emphasis?
Can you find a technical definition of the characteristic? Don't worry if you don't understand it We'll take care of that. FM broadcasting in the US uses a 75 microsecond pre-emphasis characteristic and I have all the charts and graphs and books about how that's supposed to work, but I've never hear...
