Re: MP3 playback lower quality compared to playing on Audaci
<<<Don't know where you read that>>> I missed that. I record stuff in AIFF files at 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and set my iTunes to import as uncompressed AIFF. When I burn CDs of my performances, there is no damage or cross translation problems at all. Zero. If I import WAV files, iTunes just rearranges...

Re: problems with simple cutting and pasting
Here's a magic problem... When you click inside the blue waveforms, does the cursor "stick" and does Audacity start playing from that point when you press the spacebar? Sometimes you can cure magic problems like this by restarting the computer. Does the problem change at all when you do th...

Re: how to recreate stereo image
If the singers are the only thing in the performance, you can use the pan tool on the left of the timeline to center the performance, The blue waveforms will not change, but the bouncing lights sound meter will tell you where in the sound field the singers are. If the singers are mixed into an other...

Re: Error While Opening Sound Device - Sony Laptop
Recording from the internet has become...interesting. Some versions of Vista make it difficult to record streaming content. Some laptops make it impossible without some serious software and system changes.

Crash Recovery

Give that a shot. The superfast sound is usually caused by Audacity encountering a sound format it doesn't understand. This may have caused the original crash.

<<<Sure, what's that model # for that Sennheiser headset?>>> I'll get that for you. We actually have two and were using them primarily for hotel shows of our work and exhibitions. I found out about them and started using them for live presentations in the screening room. World of difference. I'm no ...

Re: Want to Chop Off High Wave Peaks
<<<I could highlight every snare beat and reduce amplitude one at a time but there are too many.>>> Did you try one or two and did it work? Audacity 1.3 has a tool called the "leveler." It's a brute force limiter, not compressor. You can put Audacity 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine at the same...

Re: how to recreate stereo image
The rest of the performance is a big deal. Are the vocals the only thing in the show? Were they mixed badly -- the rest of the orchestra is OK and the vocals are panned hard left?

Re: Distortion Analyzer
I understand all this is a complete slave to the sound card, but yes. That should work. The old instruments needed auto nulling because they really had no idea what the incoming tone pitch was since the analysis is done with two different machines. And it wouldn't work if the analyzer main frequency...

Re: Audacity 1.3.7 crashes while compressing
If you expect us to fix it easily, we would reeeeely rather you only had two, maximum. 1.2 and 1.3. <<<The alpha version took a long time to find my .aup files and isn't displaying the full path in the Recent files menu, but otherwise it seems to be working.>>> It works perfectly except that it does...
