Re: hardware or software problem?
<<<The sound that is produced is shockingly BAD!>>> It's supposed to be bad, not Shockingly bad. Just to cover the bases, download and play the Left-Right sound test from my web site ... http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html It's really short and it's revealing if your sound system is doing some...

Re: 32-bit float to 24-bit FLAC?
<<<But you seem to be saying that Audacity might well be doing something else entirely>>> Oh, it's worse than that. There is a recent thread by someone who is trying really hard to get good, simple digital accuracy with the Audacity Import and Export functions ... and is failing. His last posting is...

Re: Burning CD From Playlist
One more. Many iTunes don't like 32-bit floating very much. Audacity default sound format (unless you changed it) is 44100, 32-bit floating, Stereo.
Change to 16-bit in Audacity Preferences.

Re: Burning CD From Playlist
Something like this happens if you don't wait for iTunes to tell you to put a blank disk in. If you put one in too soon, the computer operating system grabs it instead of the authoring and burning program. iTunes is left with its thumb up its nose wondering what happened. Once you settle your playli...

Re: Record 5.1 from DVD?
There are Windows DVD ripper packages that will let you extract the AC3 Surround track. From there, you find decoder and export converter packages to give you the six original tracks. There are a lot of them in Windows land. Google your brains out.

Re: Can't get MP3 conversion started
I'm more than even sure that you have the wrong lame file. That's the file I have and I'm on a PPC G4, not an Intel machine. Everything has to match. http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/ They scrambled the Mac installers a while back and lost me completely. Did you download the .dmg file for Audacity 1.2.5? D...

What happened when you tried the analog or built-in microphone instead of the USB just for a test?

Re: WAV files exported from Audacity are not bit-identical
It is supposed to do that, but only if you export to a CD authoring system that doesn't have its own. Slight dither is the way Music CDs allow frequency response to 20KHz.
