Re: Sound missing or dropping out
<<<The partition on which I have the recorded files is 108 GB>>> That raucous sound is the alarm bell sounding. Never capture to a partitioned drive. You do not "magically" get three drives out of one when you partition. You get three apparent drives each with one third or less the speed o...

Re: Sound missing or dropping out
Just a note. This can also happen if you try to move a Project or "clean up" and accidentally destroy some of the pieces of the show. It's easy to do. This problem reduces Obsessive-Compulsives to jelly. They clean up and organize all their files after a live capture and there goes the sho...

<<<but there we used tape-splicers and tape.>>> Scotch 808? Wasn't there a low-noise version? Like 908 or something? Edit-All block, right? Somebody else made popular blocks. I don't remember who made the razor blades. <<<Let's see if I have got it right. If I record and save in Audacity's native fo...

Re: Sound missing or dropping out
AUP files are not sound files. They are supervisory files for Audacity Projects. Projects are enormously complex affairs, but the AUP file is plain text and you can open it up in NotePad and read it. Here's a picture of a simple one ... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/aup1.jpg Use the magnifier tool ...

Re: can't get audigy to record from line input.
The bouncing light sound meters will measure sound a lot lower volume than the blue waves on the timeline. So your show isn't loud enough. What are you using to make the sound? iPod connection? Cassette machine? Everybody always starts the movie in the middle of the second act. We need it from the c...

Re: 32-bit float to 24-bit FLAC?
Well, yes, if all you're going to do is straight capture a live performance and listen to it later, then my personal favorite, 48000/16/Stereo is enough for pretty much anybody. All digital television and Movie DVDs use that unless you're in Dolby Surround. However, if you need filters or special ef...

Re: Joining multiple MP3 files to create one large file
Still, Free iTunes for Windows should let you import your Music CDs in multiple formats. You can import them at the original uncompressed format if you want, you don't have to use the Apple AAC format, or any compression at all. I believe one of the iTunes import formats is MP3. Pull the MP3 files o...

Re: 32-bit float to 24-bit FLAC?
Somebody proved a bit ago that the 24 bit files weren't actually 24-bit, so I'm not making any claims at all.

Re: Telephone FIlter
I didn't know anybody made a packaged filter. You can get a pretty convincing effect by applying the graphic equalizer and drop everything below 300 and above 3000. If that's too complicated, High Pass Filter at 300 and Low Pass Filter at 3000. You can get a little crunchy distortion in there with t...

Re: 32-bit float to 24-bit FLAC?
To your ears, Audacity always seems to do something desirable even if it's not exactly what you think it's going to do. Because Macs have the fewest developers and least number of helpers, we get pretty serious problems and it takes us a bit longer to stamp them out. We had that Long File AIFF Impor...
