Re: absolute sound level
Might you be overthinking this? The waveform on the timeline (when changed to dB instead of percentages) will tell you accurate dB levels of the peak of each sound. The wave is completely dependent on the input signals from the microphone and given one single stable microphone and multiple samples, ...

Re: Help! Error opening project
I think this is the error you get when you pick bad filenames. Names of files should only contain upper and lower case letters, numbers, and only two punctuation marks; underscore and dash. I personally don't use spaces, either, for some exotic reasons. That's it. All other characters may carry mean...

Re: The opposite of latency - Why? - How to solve?
This sort of thing can happen with cheap sound cards that are inexpensive and don't cost very much. The electrical characteristics of your sound card are different between capture and playback. So the 44100 show is recorded at 44098 and played back at 44102. Over time, Real Life and the captured per...

Re: Export to MP3 feature not working
<<<When I tried to edit the Audacity projects in Windows 7, it wasn't having any of it. It was giving me 'file was not found' errors every time I tried to make an adjustment to the project- presumably because of all the bloody permissions.>>. Nope. You can't move Audacity projects. The Files, Order,...

Re: Audacity crashes when vst enabler is present OS X
I don't have any good answers. VST support has always been a little ratty in Audacity. Try the Advanced Search at the top of this forum.
And please don't post hundreds of pages of core dump without asking first. The forum isn't all that big.

Re: Noise during playback even when silent?
<<<I generated a silent segment in the track (by clicking "generate -> silence" which as far as I knew does the same thing as Edit -> Silence Audio") and then played back the silent segment and I still heard the noise I'm describing.>>> Edit > Silence reduces the existing sound to zer...

Re: Audacity help
There is a little volume slider just to the left of each track. You can adjust each track up or down (and left to right) to produce a pleasant mix. The volumes should stay the way you left them when you Export for the CD. You should mix on good headphones or really good speakers. Most "computer...

So you got one of the gems of audio technology. An external sound system is in your future.

Re: Export to MP3 feature not working
<<<When I export to WAV, it works just fine >>> That's a good thing. We would urge you to Export all your Projects as WAV files and make safety backups of them. Audacity Projects are large, complicated, and brittle. There is a really good chance that you're going to touch some of them and they're no...

<<<voicemail VO project.>>>
Ummmm. What? What's a voicemail voice over?
Music CD sound is 16-bit, so something else was going on.
