Re: Error saving project , is not writeable, or the disk is

We warn people against capturing or managing to a network drive. Networks are particularly unsuited for live capture because of Ethernet Negotiations and Collisions. Capture, whether audio or video happens in real time and network drives don't. Another problem is the file management thing you ran in...

Re: Noise removal

Yes, but not in Audacity. Wash your records thoroughly. There is a posting on here somewhere about how. Here's pieces... ====================== When I do a master transfer of records, I literally scrub them with dish washing up soap and warm water. Rinse carefully in distilled water which drys and l...

<<<I haw just got a new turntable with usb connection to pc.>>> Oh, yes. No end of problems with those. Make sure all the connections are secure. unplug and plug everything a couple of times and restart the computer. Is this one of the ones where the headshell comes off? Pull it off and put it back ...

Re: Recording iTunes from Mac sounds terrible + audio mixing

Worth a shot. I'm surprised SoundFlower didn't work. Do you use either Vonage or Skype? They mess up the sound pathways really good.

Re: Consolidating?

If you Export As WAV, Audacity will mix down to stereo.

<<<or the tracks get messy>>>

How messy?

<<<audacity version is the basic one>>>

That covers a lot of ground...

Re: Noise removal

Noise Removal, as good as it is in Audacity 1.3, isn't applicable here. NR is if you want to subtract a constant, annoying hum, hiss, or buzz from your show. Occasional clicks and pops don't count. There are several pop and click removal programs available, some as tools inside Audacity. http://auda...

Re: Line in graying out

<<<why is it so difficult?>>> You have no idea. Audacity is used on three different computing platforms by millions of people all over the world. It can't include all the oddities of all the machines in every language. What it does do is use the computer's own sound services to deliver and send soun...

Re: mp3 export

Nobody jumped right on this because I think you may have used the wrong words in the question. You recorded a live presentation with you singing in front of a microphone. You saved the Project and then Exported As MP3. When you play that music file in a fresh Audacity, it doesn't sound right? Koz

Re: Trying to understand how waveforms are represented...

Sound waveforms are not symmetrical. I can edit shows from the local radio station by knowing that Debra Baer has a lovely contralto voice and most of it goes negative, unlike most normal humans and everybody else on KPCC. It makes it a snap to find her voice on the timeline. The Audacity waveforms ...

Re: A question about combining cut mp3 parts

I think there's something about MP3 files have fixed sizes, the music isn't continuous although it sounds like it. This makes editing rough because if you don't happen to hit one of the music boundaries, you can't edit. There may also be a problem in trying to edit two different MP3 files, one high ...
