Re: Speed Dubbing Cassette to PC with Audacity?
Yes, if you don't care particularly what the quality is and have a bunch of tapes, that's the way to go. However, High Speed Dubbing is something of an art. If you do have tapes that manage carry clear audio up to about 10 KHz or 15 KHz, then two-times dubbing will present those frequencies at 20 KH...

Re: There is automatic distortion when i try to record.
You are plugged into the Microphone In on your laptop, yes? Beside the problem that the connection is mono, not stereo, it's also expecting a sound level about a thousand times quieter than the one you're feeding it, and you usually can't control it, so that's your overload. Some computers have tool...

Re: Exporting all audio files to the same volume
That's hard to do without a bulk function. How critical is it that the quality of each performance stays exactly the same? I love Chris's Compressor for evening out volume variations not only song to song, but within the song, too. However, it does change the character of each song (I use it for spo...

Re: Converting cassettes and sound levels
If you haven't noticed yet, the capture audio is not only distorted, but it's left sound only. The right sound from the tape isn't recorded. Some laptops give you the option of switching one connection between Stereo Line-In (suitable for what you're doing) and Mono Mic-In. Consult your instructions...

Re: How important is it to have the level meter peaking at z
It's a little more exciting than that. You have to figure out where everything in the sound chain overloads. It doesn't do any good to have good comfortable headroom in Audacity when you're beating the prunes out of your microphone amplifier and it's creating fuzz way upstream. If you're doing live ...

Re: Zoom H2 Recorder and Skype
You didn't tell us anything about your computer. Typically you only do this trick with the manufacturer's own software package or the full license of Pamela. In order to get Skype to work at all, the software grabs the computer sound services firmly and doesn't let go. It has to take over both direc...

Re: sharing audacity files btwn Mac & Windows
As I think about this (but not too hard, it's Friday), I would probably do a simple fifteen second song all the way through first to get used to the problems. Nothing like kissing six weeks of work away because of a simple but stupid mistake. Normally, we tell people to change the Audacity preferenc...

Re: sharing audacity files btwn Mac & Windows
<<<does it become locked in "as is" as a wav file ? shamus>>> This is where it would be really nice to share an Audacity Project over the internet. Maybe I'm going to post that as a Feature Request. You do the drum track -- all three minutes, all the way through, save the project and Expor...

Re: Crashes after recording
Short of posting error or crash logs, it would be good to know model numbers and names and the method you used to connect your sound system.
