Re: Microphone volume too low
<<<I already increased the volume of my mic (although I can't seem to find the +20 dB option)>>> That will kill you right there. We took accidental delivery of a series of sound cards that did not have the +20dB Boost and they were almost useless for our jobs. There is no option short of changing th...

Re: New user needs help executing Audacity 1.2.6 to Mac OS X
Intel Macs were never intended to use Audacity 1.2.6. Their program is 1.2.5, but the combination of 1.2.5, Intel and Leopard (10.5) isn't particularly stable or useful, either. You should trash the current Audacity application and the preference file/folder... /Users/koz/Library/Application Support...

Re: Input levels always too high - can't record LP
<<<RCA "tape out" jacks are connected via cable to my Vista laptop's microphone jack.>>> You may never get there. The Microphone Input of a laptop is mono, not stereo, and it's expecting a very, very low sound level and you can't stop it. It overloads easily. Some laptops let you switch on...

Re: Changing Playback Position
Click inside the blue waveforms. That will establish a new cursor position and the song will start from there until you change it again. If you can't hit the point accurately enough, click-drag around the desired point and Control-E zoom in. Try to find the point again. Keep going in until you find ...

Re: Cannot record to CD
The sound standard on a Music CD is 44100 sample rate, 16-bit resolution, Stereo. Oh, and 80 minutes, tops. That means the top frequency response is about 17 KHz and with dithering tricks up to 20 KHz, the generally accepted limit of human hearing. The difference between overload clipping and noise ...

Re: Loss of all sounds after Audacity use
<<<I intended to record a song on my computer and downloaded Audacity.>>> When I hear that, I picture you sitting down in front of a microphone with your guitar and performing a 3 minute piece for capture into Audacity. I'm betting what you mean by that is capturing a song off the internet. Which is...

Re: Merging 2 captures end to end
Or (c.) Neither one. Neither MP3 because of its sound damage nor Audacity Projects because of their brittle nature is ever considered a Capture Master. Export as WAV to get an actual, high-quality sound file of each side of the tape. sideA.wav, sideB.wav Back these files up to a second drive or othe...

Re: How important is it to have the level meter peaking at z
Your ear works a little funny at volume changes. Double or half level, 6dB either direction, is a change barely noticeable by most people. 3dB goes right by everybody. This gives you the odd idea that in order to hear a significant difference in your living room, you have to double the size of your ...

Re: Backround static
If the performance and the audience is in stereo, but the band is pretty much all mono, then you might be able to use some of the "vocal isolation" tools to suck the band out of the mess. Voice Removal or Isolation --Center Pan Remover (Voice Remover--Search the page for "Center Pan R...
