Re: RMS

This is my RMS Normalize plugin. I can't find ACX Check right this second. rms-normalize.ny How do I change that to, say perhaps -22, and then apply across the entire track? I think you're working too hard. Audiobook Mastering was designed to correct a reading so Peak and RMS comfortably meet audiob...

Re: Automatic Gain Control on Recording? (Autosave?)

some people scream in there Radio and some whisper Audacity doesn't apply effects, filters or corrections when recording. Is there a way to Auto Save after 60Minutes + when its silent I don't know of a way to auto save, but Audacity has Sound Activated Recording. Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Rec...

Re: Monitor during recording

The headset I have plugs directly into the side of the mic Which microphone? Is it really a headset? microphone and earphones in one? Or headphones? Two earmuffs? In general, if you have a place to put the headphones, they expect it to work. Some microphones only allow computer playback and not liv...

Re: Removing increasing whine in a recording

We would need to hear it or have a sample. Drag-select ten seconds around that drop-off, File > Export > Export Selected: WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit and post it. Scroll down from a forum text window > Attachments > Add Files.

Did you all turn off your phones while you were performing?

Re: ACX-Check

Nothing wrong with that. I applied the three mastering tools in order. Screen Shot 2020-04-14 at 20.15.49.png MasteringSuite.png This is the copy I've been using. rms-normalize.ny What work are you planning on reading? I can hear a Mark Twain novel in that voice. Are you going to read your own work?...

Re: audiobook harshness after using filters

I've decided to get one and start again. Post the idea before you write a check. I can point to glowing reviews of terrible microphones. While you're working, Google [the microphone] Complaints. Anybody can pay people to write glowing reviews. That and reviewers might not review a bad microphone ra...

(though I have considered upgrading my macOS to High Sierra My highest machine is High Sierra and I have no real plans to go any further for a while. Catalina doesn't support the current Audacity and a number of other programs I like. There are ways to force it to work and a new Audacity version wi...

Re: Recording Issues - Low RMS but High Peaks?

Home readers never pass noise. It's really hard to get your room quiet enough to read straight into ACX. I do really well with my quiet, echo-free bedroom, but even I have to wait for the Metrobus to go by. We can analyze it. Record a ten-second test file according to this. https://www.kozco.com/tec...

Re: Sure SM7B sounds muddy with sharp sibilance.

The mic is probably somewhere between the A and B position but definitely not right in front of my mouth. Got it. I thought you were talking about the middle position on the rear switches. Oblique positioning is looked on scornfully by a lot of audio people, but not having the microphone directly i...

Re: RMS

The Audiobook Mastering process in that post guarantees Peak and RMS audiobook values. If you announce well in a quiet, echo-free room, you may be done.
