Re: Aud won't recognize USB mike
OS-X is a UNIX based operating system and they don't much like having their drives and connected devices come and go. It's one of the few ways to make a Mac crazy. Dirty USB sockets are very common and they cause interruptions in the data stream. That's not welcome in programs that run in real time....

<<<I was editing my .wav files for a project I'm doing, and when I closed down the program...>>> There had to be a step in the middle there. Did you Save or Export when you were done cutting? Audacity isn't supposed to modify original work unless you tell it to. People post all the time about Audaci...

I see nowhere did you use the words "I performed a Properties > Error Check on the drive."

Re: Longer preview or real-time effects? Are either possible
If everything goes into the toilet and your machine crashes or other evil event happens, you can always go back to the WAV file you exported of the performance. You did Export a Backup WAV File of the performance capture, right? Audacity Projects a large, complicated, brittle and you can't move them...

Re: Longer preview or real-time effects? Are either possible
Audacity doesn't do anything in real time. It's a post production editing and management tool. I never use preview. I apply the filter and UNDO if I don't like it. You can select a chunk of the show with your mouse and just apply the filter to that chunk. The chunk can be as long as you want. Audaci...

That subject heading almost always means you're having trouble with your USB turntable, although you didn't mention it in the post. Most people buy them as throw-away turntables and sometimes they need to be thrown away a little too soon. USB Turntable--Symptoms http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtop...

Root Kit Virus? Do whatever the Windows version of make a disk image on a second drive, reformat, and blow it all back over. If the OS can't see it to make the image, it doesn't transfer. Drives always report capacities smaller than theyr'e rating. Sometimes much smaller. My 80 GB system drive repor...

Re: Huge file - can't see or delete, but created by Audacity
Just a note. Did you try to create a Project or Job with punctuation marks in the file name? That will drive most computers nuts. A favorite mistake is putting a date in the filename. 05/05/09 may look like today's date to you, but to Windows that's a file inside two nested folders. Use 20090505. Up...
