Re: Can't encode to MP3 via LAME
Did the new Audacity ask you "English?" when you started it the first time? If it didn't, then you are still using the old Audacity preference settings and that could cause problems. Close Audacity and trash the audacity.cfg file. Mine is in... Users > koz > Library > Application Support >...

Re: itunes won't import aiff
When you Export As AIFF, make sure you're not exporting 32-bit floating, the Audacity Default.
Sometimes downstream applications and tools don't like or understand 32-bit floating. Open the AIFF in QuickTime and Get INFO.

Re: Stop plugin scans at startup?
I don't think Audacity scans the whole machine looking for plugins. It always goes to the same places. I think if you create a folder outside of the Audacity application cloud and pull the extra plugins over to it, Audacity will not be able to find them. I don't think you can stop Audacity from load...

Re: Exporting all audio files to the same volume
You may have some success with Normalize or Amplify, but both of those work on waveform peaks and ignore loudness.

Re: Import "Proprietory?" WAV
<<<I can set Audacity to record whilst playing back with Windows Media Player but the quality is also poor (echo) and the process is time consuming.>>> That at least is a Windows setup problem. You are either recording the built-in microphone or Mix-Out plus the direct sound, both at once. Windows C...

The Lame is perfect. You have the wrong Audacity.

Re: Audio waveform nor recorded
It's better than even chance your computer thinks you're trying to make an internet phone call and is automatically adjusting sound levels for you. That's a sound system setting, but I couldn't begin to tell you where since I don't have Windows XP. You almost told us what type of computer you have. ...

Re: How important is it to have the level meter peaking at z
The noise arrives as crunchy bass notes or drums. They are the loudest parts of a music performance. <<<That's -60 dB, perhaps the person got angry on me.>>> The person doesn't have to be angry. People are accustomed to a very noisy environment all the time now and everybody is partially deaf, but I...

Re: How important is it to have the level meter peaking at z
There are tools that let you play with that. Normalize lets you push your whole performance up (or down) so the highest peak hits a specific level. Many people use "0" dB for that, but knowing the problems that 0dB causes, I would get no closer than -1. The built-in value that Audaciy 1.2 ...

Re: Playback Speed Too Fast
Audacity does that to any song whose format it doesn't understand. It's not a setting or preference.
