Re: Can't do ANYTHING. Seriously. Not anything.

Not Vista, more like Windows® Windows does everything in Windows Media which is highly compressed h.264/MPEG4 audio streams. Audacity has no idea what to do with that. http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html Download the 6-second piano2.wav file. I bet it plays just fine. By Recording Something, I...

Re: Fast-forwarding playback and playing from diff start tim

I would kill to be able to type +2005 [enter] and have Audacity jump forward 20 minutes and 05 seconds.

Re: Fast-forwarding playback and playing from diff start tim

Audacity will not Scan forward like holding the [>>] button on your VCR or DVD player. But you can start playing anywhere you want by clicking inside the blue waves -- the timeline.

The spacebar will stop and start the playback. You don't have to click on the Play and Stop buttons.

Re: Audacity wont recognise external mixer

<<<realised i used the internal microphone.>>> That happens a lot. Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input > Line In. The sound meter should jump if you play your work. Then open or restart Audacity and it should be set to Default Input. Click once inside the Record meters and they sho...

Re: Acoustic pressure from dB scale

<<<which gives 44 dBu of amplification>>> 44dB, not 44dBu. dB is a relative term. My voice is 6 dB louder than yours, wherever they started out. dBu, dBv, dBm, etc all have specific starting places or references. For example, 0dBm is achieved by an audio signal that generates one miliwatt into 600 o...

Not if they're speaking at the same time.

If they're not, then there are certainly things you can do with copying room tone, etc. Which is it?

"This always used to work until I started filling up my hard drive?"

How long does it take to defrag your drive? Does it pass error check OK?

Re: Selecting the correct recording channel??

For a very high-end card like that, I would expect a separate setup software package. That's a PCI card. Does the card information say it will run on a Mac? There's also usually a list of compatible audio programs. What does that say?

Re: How to select proper Input source (v.1.3.7)?

If you were running 1.2.6 on an Air, you had the wrong Audacity and that's why the Lame wouldn't load. Intel Macs take 1.2.5. Or used to. Leopard on Intel machines killed off Audacity 1.2.x. There are significant instabilities with that combination. If the Air still has Line-In and Line-Out, you can...
