Re: Waveform

It happens to me, too. 1.5 GHz PPC Mac OS-X 10.4.11 (Tiger) Audacity 1.3.8 dated June 3 2009 The two sound clips I used were piano2.wav and LRMonoPhase4.wav from here... http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html I opened piano and Imported LeftRight so they stacked top to bottom. I selected a small ...

Re: audacity crashed

The desktop is a folder or directory on your main disk drive. If you pile enough stuff on your desktop, the machine will crash just as well as if you had put stuff in My Documents or My Music.

What kind of machine is it? Mac?

Re: Error 2: No Such File or Directory

A filename should have upper and lower case characters, numbers, underscore and dash. That's it. Any other characters can cause OS-X to do funny things. In general, you should create folders and directories ahead of time and not depend on filename manipulation to get you there. Another variation is ...

Re: No sound despite having waveform

So now it should be pretty obvious why we insist that you Export As WAV as often as you have room. Forget Saving. WAV files really are very high quality, uncompressed, stand-alone sound files that you can back up for safety and email to your mum if you wanted to. Audacity Projects are brittle and th...

Re: No sound despite having waveform

Don't empty your trash. Can you put all that back where it was? There are software tools that can reassemble your show from the crashed pieces, as long as you don't mess with the pieces. Crash Recovery http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=CrashRecovery The blue wavefoms are drawn from two gr...

<<<Sigma Tel Audio >>>

That's the built-in audio, not the device with your voice on it. You need to select that in the Windows Control Panel.

Re: Pro Tools vs. Audacity

Both programs are a complete slave to the machine running them. I regularly produce production master sound tracks from live performances with Audacity on all three computer platforms, Audition, and Cool Edit. What happens after capture is the Big Deal. Past producing a sound file (which actually is...

Re: removing noise from digital files

"Noise" is something that stays the same over the whole show, like an air conditioner rumble, computer fan noise, or microphone hiss. We can help with those. Crickets are performers and are now part of the show, probably forever. Live capture is a lot harder than everybody thinks it is. Koz

Re: Is this file mono or steroe?

You got that from a Movie DVD, right? That's not a "sound file" like you're thinking. That's a surround transport stream and it could contain Dolby Surround 5.1, six audio channels, and PCM Stereo mixdown, two more audio channels of the same show at the same time. It could contain a mono m...

Re: using Audacity with Ableton Live - Problem

<<<the functionality is supposed to be that you click a sample, go to its sample window, click "edit" and audacity opens with the sample loaded...>>>

Functionality according to who? Audacity has very rudimentary command line options.
