Re: Play time of exported WAV file truncated
Windows doesn't do well with very large files. The limit used to be the famous "2 Gig Wall" where the addressing scheme ran out of poop. Who would ever need files bigger than 2G? But there is a new one about 4Gig or so. It's not the open ended, sky's the limit that everyone thinks it is. W...

Re: XP set up to record web site radio streaming BBC iplayer
If you need to record the computer's speaker feed, then you need to select Mix-Out or What-U-Hear in the Windows control panels.... Windows Control Panel http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel Some of the newer machines come without this setting. In...

We need a little push. What are you trying to record? In detail. The machine adjustments are really different depending on the job.

Re: Sound Card Reviews
I found a significant hole in my recommendations -- sound card related.
I have six line-level perfect, clear mono feeds and I want to get all six into Audacity at the same time. No mixing. All three platforms.
How?

Re: Make it sound like a Studio
Out of the box, you can do that in stereo -- two channel. Audacity will manage up to 16 mono tracks of anything, but it's getting the tracks into the computer that's the killer. You just graduated to a USB mixer because the computer internal sound is all stereo. I don't know of a USB device that's a...

Re: Adding vocals with Audacity?
It's not a special instruction because compared to separating the original vocal, it's a piece of cake. Take the separated vocal and paste it into an additional track underneath the music. Project > New Audio Track. You may need to make the vocal into stereo for a good mix. Vocal Isolation from the ...

Re: Trying to make a good 'narrator' voice sound
<<<gently in the sense of "not too loud background">>> I mean without aggressively trying to follow the vocals. Rent major movies and listen to what they do with the sound. I don't know that I would listen to other games. They're all making the same mistakes. <<<do you also mean compressin...

I can't stress enough deadening the walls with something so it doesn't sound like you're recording in a bathroom -- or a garage.
That and Hollywood editors are really good at cutting and mixing, etc, but above all, they're supreme bookkeepers.

Oh, and thanks for not posting: "We recorded our band and it sounds like garbage. What Audacity filter can we use to make it sound perfect...?"
