Re: Newbie--how to equalize volume of SKYPE interview?
<<<Skype seemed like a good solution...)>>> Skype and the other digital "telephone" services are an excellent way around this problem because the two directions are already separate. A copper phone line has to put both voice directions on one set of wires and splitting the two directions u...

You might also consider Audacity 1.3. Audacity 1.2 was designed during the Eisenhower administration and the tools are very simple and rudimentary. Audacity 1.3 has Click Removal and Clip Fix built in to help with record transfers. You can have both 1.2 and 1.3 as long as you don't try to launch bot...

Re: low volume

However, in the particular case, you can make up the difference. Edit > Select > All. Effect > Amplify > N...

Re: Multi Tracks
Just a note. Can you make a recording if you don't go through all that craziness? Has the USB device ever worked at all in a straight recording?

Re: Recording problem
I'm actually not the right elf for Windows, but I can get you started until the real ones get here. Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O > Overdub [X] Select Everything else happens in the Windows Control Panels. You are recording "Mix-Out" which is the fancy name for everything in the computer'...

Re: Play time of exported WAV file truncated
<<<final output wav file was 4.6 Gb >>>
That's about correct for a 7 hour stereo show.
Just for form, what are your Audacity Preferences? 44100, 16-bit, Stereo? Not everybody can deal with 32-bit floating.

Re: Sound cuts in and out on aup file
You already figured out that Audacity doesn't save sound files, you need to Export to get one of those. Audacity does save Projects, and they're magic. You can't move or change in any way any of the clips you used in your show. Audacity doesn't import those clips, it just points to them in their ori...

Re: After editing, exporting does not save changes
<<<is this not what this time shift tool does?>>>
No. Time Shift moves all parts of a file sooner or later in time.
You want Effect > Change Speed, Change Tempo, etc.

<<<in plain English >>> Plain English is OK, but I like much better with whipped cream and maybe strawberries. Peaches? We need to make sure the right elf helps you, so you need to tell us the computer you use and the operating system. Windows XP? Mac OS-X? Also which version of Audacity? Koz
