Re: CHANGING VIEW WHEN GENERATING SILENCE
Instead of doing that, you might consider selecting the portion between the songs and Edit > Silence Audio. That doesn't change the time between songs and it doesn't zoom out. I think that's also a hot key unlike the generators. The zoom thing is a result of a very painful programming tradeoff and t...

Re: Play time of exported WAV file truncated
<<<Bog standard, out of the box. So, 44100, stereo, 32 bit float.>>> That's standard for Audacity, but that's not a standard WAV file. 32-bit floating sometimes gets stuck in certain players and processors. Change to 16-bit and see if that doesn't work out better. http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewt...

Re: No sound part way through
<<<Then I went to look for the original wav file and it's not longer there!>>> Which is why Audacity's show dropped dead. It went looking and couldn't find it, either. Having the blue waves doesn't count. Those are two graphic files inside the /DATA folder. You can have blue waves and no show at all...

Re: having trouble recording from my mic
You did miss quite a few steps in the middle there. You got the bouncing red meters and then you pressed stop and got the blue waves on the timeline. Then you File > Export As WAV and gave it a legal filename with upper and lower case letters, numbers, dash and underscore only; and then what happene...

Re: No sound part way through
Audacity Projects are not sound files, They're management pointers to your original sound file, which you probably moved or deleted. If you put it back and in the original name, the show should come back to life (restart Audacity). When it does, Export As WAV to get an actual sound file that you can...

Re: How Do You Record Streaming Audio Without Internal Mic
You can set up Windows Control panel to feed the computer's speaker feed directly to Audacity. At least most PC computers can do that. Some of the newer ones intentionally removed this process.
