Quick Note. You can get really wacky problems if you Pause Record your show instead of Stopping it. Can you export your show to WAV? Let's see.....Do you get the the meta-data dialog box (song title, artist...) when you try to export?

Audacity will not do anything in real time. It's a post production tool.
Record or capture a performance clean and then apply filters to it after lunch to make it sound like you want.

You may have violated one of Audacity's requirements. Audacity is pretty simple and likes running on a really simple machine. At the risk of dodging the problem, Audaity 1.3 has a terrific hard limiter. Effect > Leveler. Apply more than once for extreme crushing. You can also use the Amplify tool and deselect "no clipping." That one will produce serious distortion.

Audacity is an Editorial Production Environment Manager. A vast majority of the postings are from people trying to make it into a WAV editor or worse, a real-time WAV editor, which it's not. We really, really, really wish there was a way to explain that to people before they start using it. Audacity...
