Re: Playback freezing & out of sync
First, you're in the wrong Audacity. Mac/Intel/Leopard pretty much killed off Audacity 1.2.5. There are known stability issues; I have two Macs of that configuration that have significant problems. So 1.3.7 is the only one left for us. But that's not what happened to you. You ran out of drive space....

Re: What can be done to stop the accumulation of hiss ?
<<<Yes there was a slight improvement>>> This might be where a little thinking outside of the box is handy. Because the problem is different between the two samples, that might tell us something about how the problem was created, and further suggest a way to get rid of it. We can't get stuck in the ...

Re: Missing Time Window
There is no box on video editors. Any time in the middle of cutting and editing your brains out, you can type + 1 0 0 0 0 [enter] and the cursor will leap forward one minute (Minutes, Seconds, Frames). It's sort of a hotkey. Tell me you wouldn't find that handy -- and fast. Particularly if you have ...

Re: Recording issues
Reading carefully between the words in your post, I'm going to assume you didn't record the music, just the voice? The digital format of the two doesn't match. A new recording in Audacity will occur at the settings in your Preference Panels. An imported track will be at whatever the producer wanted ...

Re: Recording From Vinyl
The USB service on those turntables is terrible and the cause of pages and pages of complaints. Because you're on a Mac, you can invoke the analog solution and just keep right on with your work. USB Turntable--Analog Solution http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2259&p=8840#p88...

Re: Lost Files
The only actions possible after Record-Pause are Record or Stop. Other keys will produce an unstable condition. This may be different in Audacity 1.3. Try it. 1.3 has keystrokes that will allow you to Append to the end of an existing recording. Record will continue the recording where it left off an...

Re: Imported tracks badly clipped, but play fine in other ap
<<<Audacity seems to be importing them incorrectly. >>> Yes, but. Audacity is trying to manage sound files that are foreign --it has no idea how to play them correctly, so it gives it its best shot. Audacity 1.3 warns you right up front that this is going to be a crap shoot and for you to convert th...

Also, the noise density is very different.

No, but technology may be against you here. Audacity does everything internally at 32.
