Re: Driving me nuts! Zooming in causes crash.
<<<it's the thing audacity does when you have too many tracks.>>> ...for the size and speed of the machine. Each track has to be managed in real time and slow machines can't do that. Close all other applications, error check and defragment the hard drive. Always maintain at least 15% to 20% free dri...

Re: No Audio Playback on a recovered project
<<<There was at least 10 GB left over.>>> Can we guess that's way less than 10% of the drive? Audacity does everything internally at 32 bit, so say 700MB per hour for six hours works out to 4.2GB. The first time you try to do any production or show management, the UNDO files will kill you. Why didn'...

Re: Play button
Once you press Stop, the play button will work. Click anywhere in the middle of your show and Audacity will play from there. Nobody uses the Play button. SpaceBar will start and stop playback.

Re: Play button
Did you press Stop at the end of your recording? Audacity will not Play from a paused recording.

Re: clipping/distorted tracks while recording
It's not much of a brain wave, but do you have an iPod or other music player? If you have a stereo 1/8" jumper cable similar to this... http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3433875 you may be able to plug the iPod directly into your Mac and see what half of the system is broken...

Re: No Audio Playback on a recovered project
<<<I've got a project that I originally recorded on a mac.>>> Probably not. Most people who say that without qualifying it have the AUP file and not much else. The AUP file's job is to point to the thousands of other files that make up the show. <<<During that recording, Audacity crashed (yes... I k...

Re: Our first ever podcast using audacity
Yes. iTunes has blind spots. Like the ability to remember where you were when you sampled that really cool dance rhythm, no bookmarks, and much of the meta-data song information will not cut and paste. I use a number two lead pencil (really graphite) and a piece of note paper.

Re: clipping/distorted tracks while recording
<<<guitar into mic/line input>>>
Describe the guitar.
Macs don't have Mic/Line inputs. The connector with small circle and two black arrows is high-level only Line-In. You can't plug a microphone directly into a Mac unless it's a USB microphone.

Re: clipping/distorted tracks while recording
OK, so now it's hard...... I can account for the level, but not the distortion. ...ummmmmm......... Tell us about your Mac. Size, speeds, drives, OS, Any numbers you can find in About This Mac. Is there any way you can post some of the distorted sound somewhere? If you create a WAV file and zip it (...
