Not in 1.2, no. I believe there's one in 1.3.

You can have both versions on your computer as long as you only use one at a time. 1.3 projects will not open up in 1.2

The answer to the question of which way to go may be yes. You can install both 1.3 and 1.2 on your machine as long as you only use one at a time.
