Re: Removing everything but the drums/bass line
<<<Is it possible?>>> No, not really. Once the show is mixed with all the instruments and singers playing together in a stereo show, you're more or less stuck. There are tools that can isolate some instruments or voices sometimes, but they don't work very well on a downloaded, compressed, or MP3 sho...

Re: Recording From Vinyl
I'll do this out of order because it's more confusing that way. I would change Audacity preferences a little. Audacity > Preferences > Audio I/O > Stereo (2). Audacity > Preferences > Quality > 44100, 16-bit (not 32). Close the panels and restart Audacity. iTunes likes those settings a lot better. O...

Re: Record Levels - Macbook and Audacity setup
Step us through the connections. You have two mixers listed in there. The web sites require digging for six weeks to find any technical information, so it's up to you. I'm particularly interested in the connection between the last mixer and the Mac. Something like one of these? http://www.radioshack...

Re: How do you make blank mp3s?
Thinking about this a little, I would change Audacity preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and restart. MP3 files made from 32-bit masters do not always play everywhere.

Re: How do you make blank mp3s?
Open Audacity. Generate > Silence. The duration dialog will go out into days if you want it to. Export > MP3. Remember when you do that that although the output MP3 file will not be all that big, internally, Audacity does all production at super 32-bit mode, so you need to leave 700MB per hour of &q...

Re: disk space that remains on 1.2.6
If your intention is to keep perfect quality capture masters of the performance, then Export As WAV and push them over to the external drive and, of course, the backup drive. We compulsives used to recommend multiple copies over several drives, but nobody ever actually did that and the lack of bookk...

Re: How to set tracks for a continuous mix
Audacity doesn't have markers or manageable edit points. Just labels. The only thing that labels do, other than tell you where you pressed Apple-B on the timeline, is split the show apart into songs during Export Multiple. Place a label at the front of each song you want exported as a single perform...

Re: Record Levels - Macbook and Audacity setup
<<<I know the macbook line-in is a little crap for good audio quality>>> News to me. I use my Mac Line-In on an Intel Mini, PowerBook, and MacBook Pro to capture voice and effects performances for the Hollywood movie industry. Now, on Windows machines, yes. Most of them are terrible. I need to drop ...
