Re: Help/Advice?

There are technologies that tell you where the failure is. Audacity has two volume indicators; the blue waves on the timeline and the bouncing green (or red) sound meters. This is my favorite six second sound test on a timeline. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_playback.jpg That's normal in ...

Re: Saving preferences

<<<If you already have 1.2 installed and then install 1.3 the Audacity will copy the preferences from the registry to the new .cfg file.>>> I wondered about that. So any addition of Audacity 1.3+ will always go looking in the Dreaded Windows Registry first. That's the curse. Do the DWR listings vani...

Re: problem running audacity on mac

The two computers use different metaphors. The little red (x) puts the application to one side so you can work on something else, but doesn't close it. Audacity > Quit closes the program completely.

File > New or File > Open should bring your desktop tools back.

Re: harmony question

I'll take this backwards. If you have multiple tracks stacked one over the other (violins, cellos, tubas) you can select Mute or Solo (on the left) and that track will either play by itself, or vanish temporarily. You need to not be recording the computer's Mix-Out. That service has the whole world ...

Re: Export to MIDI???

Audacity doesn't speak MIDI, but more importantly, MIDI isn't a sound file. A MIDI file is a series of instructions how to play a note, how loud, by which instrument, and for how long. Each MIDI file can instruct 16 instruments at once. You can change any of the numbers. I have played piano rags on ...

Re: remove coughs

This kind of thing happens more often than you think. There is an NPR radio show whose theme song is one entire phrase longer than it was when the performers originally did it.

Re: Causes XP to Reboot

<<<It has an automatic defrag running in fact.>>> I don't know if I would be doing that. Defrag needs to keep multiple files and segments up in the air at the same time and you reeeeeely shouldn't be doing any production on the machine while it's doing that. If Audacity, or any production tool steps...

Re: Audacity crashes when importing a video file

See what fun video is?

I brought up QuickTime Pro because I have used that to marry a WAV file and a video-only file.

Re: WAV files won't play—anywhere!

However, since your destination is FCP, you might be better off with 48000, 16-bit, Stereo which is the video sound standard. I think you can force FCP to accept 44100, but there have been reported problems. One problem with FCP is that it's a consumer product, and it's sound standard is -12dB. This...

Re: Recording a Call from Pamela to Audacity

Does it start playing when I go to that URL? I can play the BlogTalk Radio thing on the side panel, but the True Blood page just gives me a Java Runtime Error. Is this Windows only?
