Re: 1950s radio effect

AM radio doesn't go beyond 5 KHz (although everybody wishes it would), and it goes down to 20 Hz. That's the proof of performance for a radio station. It does have some very peculiar noise. It can have a very low 10 KHz whistle in the background. That's two stations interfering with each other, and ...

Re: voice portion of my track is much lower than the instrum

If the vinyl recording sounds OK, properly balanced, but the capture is out of whack, then there is damage somewhere in the system. http://www.kozco.com/tech/LRMonoPhaset4.wav Play that and make sure only segment four sounds weird or coming from behind you -- or worse yet, vanishes. It's 38 seconds ...

Re: Determining the DB level on record and playback ?

That looks like a repackage job of the original Radio Shack model. It's like the one I have -- minus the aircraft yellow plastic bits. How important is the reading? Are you going to start arguing with an OSHA official? Then I wouldn't be using a cheap knockoff. The Radio Shack meter is already a che...

Re: Determining the DB level on record and playback ?

You can't do what you want with pieces and tools you assembled. The only way to get accurate dB-SPL is with a meter designed to do that. Both of these work very nicely. Forget the digital one. Digital meters don't work well on sound because there's no way to show rapid change in volume. That's whey ...

Crash Recovery

And to wear my Compulsive Engineer hat for a minute, why did it crash? I think Mac Audacity has crashed on me maybe twice.....ever. All three machines and multiple versions. Are you filling up your drive?

Re: M-Audio Solo Playthrough Problem

<<<Audacity is effectively unusable for me.>>>

The traditional M-Audio problem is with the drivers. Audacity doesn't fully support ASIO drivers. If the machine doesn't have Windows drivers, then Audacity may indeed be unusable for you.

Re: Converting

You might have a different problem. How big is the hard drive and how much space do you have left? Hard numbers are good. Where did the file come from? Do you know what the specification of the file is? Right Click the file > Properties > Advanced. Windows still has shadows of its original 2GB file ...

Re: Recommendations?

Did we insist you go through all the Windows craziness with defag, error check, and capacity, etc. etc. In other words, if you have a suddenly insane machine, that sound an awful lot like a driving filling up. Error 403 is a permissions issue. "You don't have permissions to access these files.....

If you're determined to throw up your hands. I really like my older license for Cool Edit which was the basis of Adobe Audition. I have both licenses. Highly recommended.

Re: harmony question

Your goal is to record your voice on one track by itself while you're listening to others. Then do it again and again. You "told" Windows to record the total of all the computer audios instead of just your microphone. That's a setting in the Windows panels. Like I said, what you have is th...
