Re: Distortion Level - Clipping: red indicators absent
<<<Its a 10.5 Intel>>> You have the wrong Audacity. Audacity 1.2.x stopped working for us when we installed Leopard. It's fine under Tiger. I know and like and use Audacity 1.3.7 which is not the current version, but 1.3.8 is experiencing teething pains. http://audacity.googlecode.com/files/audacity...

Re: Improving the sound of a real piano recording
Learned books have been written about how to mic a piano, this isn't a simple problem.

Re: Improving the sound of a real piano recording
There is one more possibility. An old staging trick is to put the microphone upside down so the capsule is only a half-inch or so from the floor. That will dramatically reduce one source of echo (the floor) and double the loudness of the signal. The theatrical version of this is the foam blobs on th...

Re: can't paste to desired location
Just so we're clear, you want to perform an Insert Edit. The new sound drops into the show and pushes the old pieces out of the way -- later on the timeline. Audacity will not do a mix-edit (that I know of). Are all the clips and tracks at the same sound standard? I don't think you can do extensive ...

Re: What am I doing wrong with the settings? - Please help!
Generally the best you can do is make your regular voice slightly better. Sometimes. If you try to move the pitch too far (Effect > Change Pitch) you start to sound like a martian or other space alien. If there was no expression or character in your voice to begin with, there won't be any at the end...

Re: How do I create tracks (track 1, track 2...)
Put a label (Control-B) at the beginning of each song you want to appear as a separate performance. When you're finished, File > Export Multiple.

Re: AAC & MP3 on Mac using 1.3.8
I've posted to the administrators. You're way more stuck than anything I can do to help. You're right, you should not need to be root to straighten this out. Did you try to dig down to those folders in Terminal? "Administrator" should be able to do that .. at least I can. I would recommend...

Re: Orphaned/Missing Audio Blockfields Problem
WAV files are acceptable to all three computing platforms. That's why it's the default uncompressed format in Audacity.

Re: Distortion Level - Clipping: red indicators absent
It's good to know what the lights are trying to tell you. It's not just clipping. They indicate that the incoming sound signal exceeds Audacity's ability to form a perfect digital copy. They will not tell you if something is overloading or clipping before Audacity. So we're way too close to the prob...
