Re: .flac files to .mp3
How sure are you that it's a flac file? Did you open it up in QuickTime Player and Apple-I it to get the INFO panel? Typically, Audacity does that when it encounters a damaged file. Does Audacity open up other files and manage them? Can you open this short piano solo up and convert it? http://www.ko...

Re: Can't Scroll Left and right?
There is a scroll bar underneath the waveforms. Also, you can view the whole show at once with Apple-F and zoom into a selection with Apple-E. Apple-3 zooms out slightly. With those tools available, I almost never need to use the scroll bar. I had to go look to remember where it was. You can change ...

You're standing waaaaay too close to the problem. Take about fourteen steps backward and gaze on the multiple versions of Audacity being sup...

Re: Need help with classical music editing
I set Chris's Compressor for a compression number of 0.8 instead of the default 0.5 and it mimics exactly the effect of the local Los Angeles NPR FM station broadcast compressors. Ever wonder why you never have to constantly adjust the volume during the show when you're listening to the radio in the...

Re: a new soundcard
This isn't an Audacity problem. Audacity will not apply Effects during live capture. It's a frequently asked-for feature.

Re: a new soundcard
That model number will not google. Web site? One of the "features" of many sound cards is to automatically set level during recording. 0.5 (-6dB) is not a bad level to do that. The sound card is going to have drivers and control software. See if they let you turn "Auto" off with ...

Re: Sudden noise on Windows2000
USB Hubs have never worked right with live production. Any equipment in the pathway that has to stop and think about it every so often is deadly to real-time production.

Without question...

It shows up in the effects lists as "Compress Dynamics." He designed it to do precisely what you want to do.
