Re: Minimizing file size

You are warned against helping the MP3 compressor too much. Destructive compressors all work by assuming you are presenting them with a perfect, sharp, clear show and they do everything in their power to make sure as much quality as possible is preserved in the final show file. If you present them w...

Re: Audacity not receiving input

<<<All computer volumes are up and not muted.>>> Probably not. Depending on your version of Windows, there are two sound panels, record and playback. It's perfectly possible to hear a microphone or other show and not have any recording at all. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolb...

Re: Click and Noise-Removal from Voice/Speech-Recording

I think our first tip needs to be how to listen to that file.

Re: Split Off Meters...*Really* Split

Remember the "Look and Feel" legal actions between Apple and Microsoft? This is an offshoot of that. Different desktop metaphors is a major reason people didn't often switch between Windows and Mac in the past. It's insanely easy to get lost if you don't know what it's thinking about. Focu...

Re: Constant high-pitched humming, buzzing, whining

<<<you reported a fault with the "Line In" and they did not test the "Line In".>>> Which is why I asked in an earlier post exactly what you said when you walked into the Apple Store. Your goal is to fix your production and their goal is to prove there's nothing wrong with the Mac...

Re: Recording Skype - Other Person Too Quiet

The trick here is to find software that will let you record both sides of the conversation suitable for production. That's the difference between the two cheap Pamelas and the two expensive ones. The ability to record the two sides on their own track so you can apply filters and effects to one and n...

Re: Recording time again

And the possibility of an external drive of that size being fast enough is zero. We do something interesting. We have 1TB storage machines for our video, but internally, they are much smaller, faster drives in RAID5 array. If one breaks, you replace it and let the array "heal" itself. Come...

Re: a new question about sample rate

You do also need to gaze briefly at your client. I do live voice captures in 16-bit, 48000, Stereo because most of it ends up in an Avid machine. Everything runs at television sound standard. Not Music CD.

Re: a new question about sample rate

Most people don't notice any difference in the sound at rates above 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. That's the Music CD sound standard and while some golden-ear professionals claimed they could hear "enormous damage" to the sound, the vast majority of the listening public couldn't hear a thing. Mos...

Re: making audio CDs from Audacity files

It's understandable you're confused. Audacity does not save sound files and you can't make anything out of Projects. I know we published volumes on how to do this and I can't find any of it. The wiki search is a future product. Here it is... http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=654...
