Re: how to record a youtube soundtrack?
<<<"shortcircuiting" the soundcard output and input and then start recording>>> That works on Macs and PC Deskside machines, not PC laptops. For this to work you need matching High Level Line-in and Line-Out. Most PC Laptops have low-level Mic-In and it's incompatible with this trick. PC L...

Re: Audacity 1.2.6 and Mac OSX 10.4.10
You know OS-X is sitting on top of a Linux platform, right? One of the Flame/Inferno setup engineers sets up and runs his Mac from its linux command line. Re: Audacity 1.2.6 and Mac OSX 10.4.10
<<<This seems to me to be a much more secure solution.>>> Which this? This OS-X or This Linux? I'm wondering what you consider to be the advantages of both? Most of the people in the Systems Office run linux on the firewall and then plain OS-X on their personal machines. Some dual boot into Windows ...

Re: using the amplifier
Effect > Amplify, right? Stop using the sliders. Type .5 into the data entry box right from the keyboard. I'm prompted to ask why you want to change a sound signal 1/2 dB. That's not even penny change in the bottom of your jeans. That's pocket lint. To hear any volume change at all, you need to move...

Re: recording...acting strange, volumewise
First, the AUP file isn't a sound file, so you can take that one down and save the space. It sounds exactly like a sound card that's throttling itself back so it won't damage the signal. You didn't go into a whole lot of specifics about how you have the computer wired and to what. If you're using th...

Re: Audacity can't play any music, all kinds of solutions fa
Audacity has preferences, too. Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O. Is it set to playback into anything you own? Back on the main edit window, do you have the output (little speaker) slider all the way up? Do you get the bouncing green sound meter when you play a clip and where do the peaks bounce? And j...

Re: Smooth Cutting/Pasting
Excellent. I guess the only other way to do something like that would be the two half-lap fades at each point. This is much better.

Re: Click and Noise-Removal from Voice/Speech-Recording
I really want to figure out how to listen to that file. The impression I got was that the show is mostly unintelligible garbage and we need to try to make the voice buried inside a little less unintelligible. There doesn't seem to be any part of that web site willing to either let me listen to or do...

The edit window and the analysis window trade places depending on last window clicked, but they they move as one during task switching. Apple-TAB will switch between FireFox and the Audacity Group. Two events, not three.
