Re: Recording maximizes at 0.5, playback works
<<<Still, I'm a little closer to a solution :) and keeping the input level below 0.5 and amplifying afterwards works for now.>>> Just a point of reference here. 0.5 or 50% is only six dB in sound levels. Television sound average is twenty dB. So normal television sound would barely appear on the blu...

Re: How to prevent loss of high tones on import?
<<<the new sounds coming out very "dull" compared to the originals.>>> The originals being what? Are you performing live in front of a high quality microphone? Play this 6 second piano solo in your browser, then Save The Page (piano2.wav) open it in a fresh Audacity and play it again. Soun...

Re: Recording maximizes at 0.5, playback works
<<<Ready to accept that, but why is it only affecting the line-in, not mic-in?>>> Because the protective shield on the Line-In connector is broken. These services are all unbalanced and if the shield goes away, so goes half the signal and any protection that might have been there. The Mic-In service...

Re: Breaking up a file and navigating
<<<[I initially posted this my mistake in the Unstable forum.]>>> Was it an unstable posting? <<,(1) break up the file into short segments (say a few seconds long and punctuated by short silences)>>> You can easily produce multiple short files, but it's not automatic. You can press Control-B at the ...

Re: making audio CDs from Audacity files
If I seem short, it's because I'm doing this between other activities. It's like how fast can you type?

Re: Recording maximizes at 0.5, playback works
<<<My guess is that somehow the line-in got damaged, not the mic-in, and it loses contact with the jack for an instant>>> My guess is it's picking up electrical trash from inside the computer. They warn you when you install a sound card to keep it as far away form other cards and electronics as you ...

Re: Recording maximizes at 0.5, playback works
<<<I guess it's the same if I just plug it in there?>>> It's not the same. The High Level Line-In should work. It's designed to handle the signals you have. The Microphone Input is designed for a really tiny electrical signal and it's easily damaged if you connect it wrong. It's pretty extreme. The ...

Re: Recording audio from MSN and Skype chat videos
<<<Could anyone confirm me these problems?>>> Wouldn't surprise me. Whatever software you use to capture both sides needs to know exactly what Skype did to the pathways. The setup is highly abnormal and Skype does not Play Well With Others. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1225...

Re: Recording maximizes at 0.5, playback works
Or we could try to fix the actual analog problem instead of marshaling programmers to fix it in digital Post Production. You are overloading something ahead of the computer -- or possibly just at the sound card. <<<I'm having a weird problem when recording anything.>>> That's as close as you got to ...
