Re: Driving me nuts, recording audio output

<<<Whats odd to me is that the meter that is recording audio is up and moving yet nothing is playing on the computer. >>> That's normal, that's a special setting, but while you're looking at the red record meters, do they look like they're responding to a show -- some low bouncing and some high -- o...

Re: distorted & garbled after 50 minutes

So this only happened once? Let's see, eight stereo channels at 700 MB/hour. That's a finished, uncompressed show of about 5.6GB, and all of happening in real time. I'd be capturing this on at least an internal dual drive RAID 0 array to get the speed and capacity up. Effectively, a super fast D: Yo...

Re: Recording Button Freezes Program

Oh, great. Windows Short Forms. Windows heritage is eight characters. The real location is probably something like C:Windows And Settings/Compact Presario/ Local...something, something. Yes, change that to some other directory or folder and see what happens. Pick something you can get to and persona...

Re: how to connect pre-amp

<<<.i HAD an encore soundcard but it wasnt the rite bits..it was a 32 bit.>>>

That's pretty unusual. You're sure there wasn't a software package or driver to let you change it? I have trouble believing somebody made a USB sound card that would only do 32-bit.

Re: Recording Button Freezes Program

Go into Audacity > Edit > Directories and read what's there. That's where Audacity is going to try and put temporary files while it's working. I don't know how to do this for Windows Sound Recorder. Open up Notepad and create a really simple document, "Hello!", and try to save that to the ...

Re: Recording Button Freezes Program

OK, then you may be out of hard drive space. My Computer > Explore > Right Click C: > Properties. What's the size of the drive and how much room do you have? Is the size of the drive and the size you're expecting the same? For example, if you know your machine has a 40 GB hard drive and the inspecti...

Re: import mp3/export mp3

Yes. Twice. Audacity will not edit an MP3 file. It converts to an internal uncompressed format and then re-compresses at the other end.

You want one of the MP3 editors that doesn't have to re-encode. You don't get fancy-pants effects, tools, and editing with those, but it may be enough.

Re: how to connect pre-amp

<<<i cant do what i want to do with this card?>>> Wait. What card? I read over the posts and you only tell us about a separate phono preamplifier, a phono preamplifier built into your bigger music amplifier, and a Mystery Hole in the side of your computer. Yes, if you can't get the Mystery Hole to d...
