Re: attaching wav file to email
You may have used the wrong English words. Audacity does not Save sound files. It saves projects. To get a sound file you need to Export one. Did you misspeak, or are you really trying to email a project? Audacity sometimes uses hidden folders for internal housekeeping. More than one editor tried to...

Re: Irregular playback speed on previously OK files
I forgot a step.
You can have both 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine safely. You just can't use them both at once. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2

Re: Irregular playback speed on previously OK files
Windows Audacity 1.2 keeps its preferences in The Dreaded Windows Registry. It's the only version of Audacity that made that mistake. Since you had a System crash, you may very easily have a Registry Corruption. Try deleting the Audacity program and then reinstalling it. If it doesn't ask you "...

Re: no sound with OS X 10.5.8 and Audacity 1.x.x
You need to answer the question. Does a Music CD, DVD or YouTube play OK? Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input and Output. This is the simple version of the MIDI panel. Are you pointed to the right devices? If you plug USB equipment in the System can miss its cues and route sound to...

Re: Disappearing .aup files!
I personally would not be using Projects (AUP files) at all. There is no reason at all why capturing a vinyl record should need a Project. Next time you get to the end of an album, Export As WAV. Elvis-In-Hawaii_Side_A.wav. You can change Windows so it shows you file extensions and the filename will...

Re: Recorded Files Randomly Saved
Audacity insists on being the only one managing all those little sound snippets. If you change anything in any way, the show turns to trash. The official mantra is that the names and locations of all those files are buried in the AUP file. It's a text file. You can open it up in Notepad and read it....

<<<Would this be a huge programming challenge? >>>
Yes.
I would kill to be able to scrub like I can in my video editors.

Re: weird playback while recording
I believe the M-Audio equipment uses ASIO drivers that Audacity doesn't support. See if there are Windows drivers for your sound device. That and simultaneous record and playback puts a high stress on the sound system and the computer internal processing. People get burned by this when they give up ...
