We can guess. Where does the sound meter bounce? Is it way on the left hand edge? You can pull the meters out of the operating window and expand them to see what's what. I'm fuzzy on what you're trying to do. If you want Audacity to start a whole new timeline with a fresh live recording, then there may be something wrong with your Audacity. If you want Audacity to stop what it's doing and add onto an existing performance, then you're in the wrong Audacity. Audacity ...
