Re: online recording
If you have perfect ethernet and perfect WiFi, then it doesn't make any difference. If you live in an apartment complex with every other apartment hosting a WiFi connection, then you can have significant troubles maintaining a good connection. There are only seven WiFi channels and you can't use two...

<<<And their noisy disposition preceeds them>>> If they're happy and cool, they're dead quiet. Even if you do extreme processing and leave them cranking, they might pick up their fan speed a bit. It's only when you mess with them that they get noisy. If you do anything to disturb the watchdog proces...

Re: 1.3.9 sometimes export partly crashed AIFF
I experiment with the higher versions and I've been known to do feature testing, but for day to day production tasks, I use 1.3.7 on both Macs. I did early updates to 1.3.8 and immediately rolled it back to 1.3.7 when the Mac acted funny and wouldn't open some sound files and failed to manage the Ma...

Re: Amplification distortion
People on the video forums have reported heat problems when they tried to jam large hot hard drives into the older cabinets. Have you looked inside a G5 cabinet? It's a wind tunnel, with variable speed fans thankyouverymuch. The OS-X transition was a revelation. All of the Systems people including t...

Re: filtering distortion
I, too, think the microphone wasn't up to the job. Each church has resonance and good organists play to those notes. This can drive sophisticated microphones; condenser, electret, nuts. I hear frequency doubling where the low pedal which should have been. The bass note through the middle of the clip...

Re: blending two audio files
You probably don't. People go through a lot of effort to record voices and sound clips with the same microphone and same recorder to avoid having to match voices later.
The grownups have trouble doing that. It's just about impossible for anyone else.

Clip Fix..and Fix..and Fix..
I had the occasion to use Clip Fix the way it was intended [gasp] -- on an otherwise properly recorded show with gentle clipping three or four times down a three minute performance. It did some pretty impressive repairs, but on a whim I applied it again and got half-again better correction. And then...

Re: filtering distortion
Audacity 1.2, although officially "Stable," is hopelessly out of date. Audacity 1.3 has all the cool tools and talents. Even though 1.3 is officially "Beta Unstable," it is the basis if the soon to be released 2.0 stable.
