M-Audio is famous for using ASIO drivers for its computer/sound management. Audacity is famous for not supporting ASIO.

In the specific case of ASIO, those silly people keep insisting of being paid for it. MP3 is a paid license, too. It's copyrighted software. It's not free.

Television sound is 48000, not 44100. Try changing Audacity to 48000, 16-bit, Stereo and then do the production.

Audacity doesn't recognize most of the highly compressed internet file formats. You'll need to convert the file in Super or Switch to WAV which Audacity can understand.

If you're on a newer Intel Mac with Leopard or Snow Leopard (10.5, 10.6), then there is no stable Audacity 1.2 for you or us. Other incompatibilities and instabilities will show up as you use the program. Trash the program from /Applications and the Preferences file... Trash Mac Audacity Preferences...
