Re: silence after 16seconds

<<<haven't upgraded or changed a darn thing to my Audacity in years.>>> It's not Audacity you have to worry about. These are the symptoms of a Project with missing parts. The blue waves on the timeline come from two graphics files. It's totally possible to have perfect blue waves and no show at all ...

Re: Audacity corrupted Palm Pilot data

You posted in a portion of the forum where we can't tell what kind of computer you have or which operating system. It's a Mac, right? It would be good to know which Palm, which version of Palm Software and anything else about your computer you can think of. We're not there watching you, so we work i...

Re: Recording works, but is VERY quiet... help?

Minus 18 (on the meter) is actually not all that far off. You can probably amplify what you have. Edit > Select > All. Effect > Amplify > [return] The sound meter in this case is a much more accurate measure of your show. The timeline is designed for complex editing, not critical loudness measuring....

Re: Importing MP3 files

<<<I have exported the recording as an MP3 files (for purposes of emailing ~5Mb). >>> Which should drive the musicians at the far end nuts. MP3 is a final delivery format, not a production and editing format. Every time you compress and decompress the music, it's going to get more and more ratty, bu...

Re: Change Bitrate on MP3 Export

After you make it past the meta-data dialog (which you can turn off in preferences), Audacity should present you with an export panel with an options button. Of course, you need to have the extra 'lame' software loaded to export MP3. You also need to know that MP3 compression causes damage and it's ...

Re: Recorded signal plays back at higher frequency?

<<<When I record in Audacity>>> What exactly are you recording and how is it connected? <<<doesn't that control both recording and playback?>>> Not always. If Audacity can't figure out what you're recording, the output specifications could be magic. Audacity is a terrible converter. If you need to c...

Re: Two copies launch on startup

Annoying and Most Unusual. The usual Get Out Of Jail card when Audacity gets confused is to trash the preferences folder. We assume you haven't had it long enough to collect a million special preferences, so this shouldn't be onerous. Go > Home > Library > Application Support > audacity (trash this ...

Re: Alter Voices to sound like fighter pilot or space man

Those are the settings for "telephone." Roughly 300 to 3000. If you add the distortion, too (as above), you get the Air Traffic Control voice. This sample is missing all the support noise and other conversations and it may take a million years to download. My Web Host had problems the last...

Re: AUP File format information

RMS is Root Mean Square. That, stripped of the Engineering is how loud the signal is -- in a fuzzy way. The sound level meters will not do that because they follow the digital peak values of the sound. Notoriously unreliable. This is the one and only place where the US type VU meters shone. They wou...

Re: AUP File format information

<<<[don't know what 'channel="0"' and 'linked="0"' mean]>>> Channel 0 in English is "Left." Did you note that the code is for Left on top and Right on the bottom? Here's that really, really, really simple AUP file I produced and then captured as a graphic. I put extra s...
