Re: Choosing Soundcard and Mic

You do bump into one problem almost immediately. The M-Audio stuff is very nice, but they typically use ASIO software drivers and Audacity doesn't support ASIO. You can try it anyway, but, there are a lot of postings from people who say, "I have an M-Audio [some part number] and it will not [so...

Re: Balancing Stereo channels

Effect > Normalize will adjust the volume of both sides of the performance independently.

You can also split the stereo tracks with the tools on the left and then apply any Audacity tool to one side or the other.

Re: unable to hear recording

It's not unusual for Windows to become confused when you plug a USB device in. It tries to manage sound both directions to that device. Sound from the turntable to the computer works pretty well, but it also tries to send playback back to the turntable. That doesn't work so well. Windows Control Pan...

Re: outputting a playlist while recording

Audacity has all it can do to capture a sound piece, stop, and play it back. It has never been able to do multiple things at the same time, and as far as I know, doesn't have a programming language for you to write your own.

Re: Recording Audio - Kiss the Mic Problem

Like wind noise you get when recording at the beach? You don't. Live recordists go to great effort to avoid recording that in the first place because it's permanent. http://www.koalawindsocks.com/ You might be able to get rid of some of it with a high pass filter. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/100H...

Re: Can't connect my keyboard to my computer

You are listening to your computer process the music, although one second or longer is too long for straight latency (its official name). Do you get your hard drive light flashing a lot between the time you press the button and the sound comes back out? Pay attention to that next time. Performer mon...

Re: Problem recording elec piano

I have similar problems between my "entertainment wall" and the computers. I got rid of the buzz and hum with one of these. http://www.cs1.net/products/jensen_transformers/CI-2RR.htm I didn't actually buy that unit, I already owned the individual Jensen® transformers so I built my own box....

<<<Any suggestions as to what type (or make) of cable I should get?>>> I doubt the type of cable is going to make any difference at all given you're not going to change the underlying system or equipment layout. If the problem is ratty wall power, it may make it worse. <<<I might even get a (usb) pr...

Re: Leveller effect adds distortion

Yes, that's pretty much what a hard limiter does. Again dipping into ancient history, the CBS Labs company made a two-box audio processor that was once found in every FM station in the US. Volumax and Audimax. In hardware, they did what Chris does, except they didn't have look-ahead. The Audimax was...
