They used to use it to demonstrate their acoustically transparent foam. It didn't make the sound muffled like the corner music store universal foam. You can get the same effect by putting a thin layer of foam on the floor and then don't cover the microphone at all. The killer with this technique is ...

Re: setting up mixer to record my own mix cd's
Go into Windows Control Panels > Sound and make sure your Microphone connection is selected and turned up if there's a volume control. The panel might be selecting the built-in microphone if you have one of those. Then launch Audacity and go into Edit > Preferences > I/O and make sure the same thing ...

You can't directly edit Music CD sound files. They're in a special format. Rip the CD with CDEX or other CD ripping program.

Re: Stage recording advice...
There is a stage recording technique that eliminates the floor reflections by putting the microphones on the floor. Not directly on the floor, of course, but Electro-Voice makes or used to make a "Stage Mouse" which was a little half-sausage with a hole in it to slide the microphone. The f...

Re: Same volume across all tracks
You know you don't have to go through half of that cutting and pasting. Just slip each track late, so it occurs at the right time in the show. When you export the WAV, all the tracks will mix into one stereo track.

Re: Same volume across all tracks
For good vanishing background music, I would Effect > Normalize > Remove DC (only) for each track. Then apply Chris's Compressor to each track. http://pdf23ds.net/software/dynamic-compressor/ Then Edit/Cut/Paste your brains out. The tracks should all match in loudness and not have any pops or clicks...

Re: Still need to delete .05 seconds of track
You should be able to select down to one digital sample. My piano track is sampled at 48000, so I can manage times down to 1/48000.
Make sure 'Snap To' hasn't been selected at the bottom of the window.
