Re: Recording from DAT at 48kHz
There are people using the S/PDIF connection on a Mac to capture right from the AES/EBU output of the DAT machine. The Mac Line-In also has an Optical S/PDIF back there. I've never tried it, but I should because it will let me interface directly with the digital videotape machines in the building. Koz

Re: Decoding to notes
There is a really painful way to do that in the spectrum analyzer, but you probably wouldn't want to do it for hundreds of notes. Here's the problem... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/piano_G1.jpg That's one piano note. The richer the timbre of the instrument, the harder it is to pick out the fundame...

Re: How to amplify without clipping
<<<I would like to amplify the volume in songs using audacity but when I amplify, the maximum is negative!>>> All digital audio is negative. "0" 's official name is 0dBFS. Zero dB full scale. That's where the digital channel is so loud it runs out of numbers. You can only go down. As point...

Re: Vinyl, Preamp, Computer (Soundcard) Issue"?
In order to get to the Line-In of audacity, the show has to make it past the sound card. Audacity is a complete slave to the computer that's running it. Many people try to do this capture thing with a laptop PC and those tend to be business machines, not entertainment production. Want to call the he...

Re: clickiing noise I can't get rid of...
So it is the energy in the waveform not the shape. There is an announcer who has significantly non-symmetrical speech waveforms and she still does after I "Remove DC." It doesn't suddenly bump up or down. Does it do that once for the whole show? So one severely damaged waveform in the end ...

Re: (L)side only -- Stereo Mix problem = Whistling/Humming s
<<<The right side is fine = and is actually recording sound.>>> Let's take that again from a slightly different angle. When you're recording sound both channels work perfectly. When the show sound stops but you continue to record, you get a very quiet sizzling sound on the left. Koz

Re: Help!??!??!
Audacity 1.3 is claimed to have tools to "tune" latency delay -- hopefully out.
