Re: (L)side only -- Stereo Mix problem = Whistling/Humming s
Nowhere is it written that recording Mix-Out will provide you with Only Mix-Out. It's possible to have other connections and services running -- and some of them may be contributing the noise. If you have your Mic-In running without a microphone connected, that could be noisy and that would only sho...

Re: Pops/crackles when recording voice in 1.2.6 yet not in b
<<<I've used 2 or 3 versions that follow 1.2.6 and they seem to crash too regularly>>> Audacity is a coal mine canary. When it croaks, you want to get out of that mine in a hurry. Audacity doesn't just crash for no good reason. Unstable machines get much worse when Audacity suddenly uses large amoun...

Re: Chris's Compress crashes Audacity - Pamela/Skype recordi
Yes, but you do have to be careful. Because Audacity is not commercial software, the developers occasionally went their own way and created some amusing holes that everybody falls into.

Re: Cannot Open Audacity Files in Beta
I think I can get a lot more depressing than that. Why did you reinstalled Windows XP? That's not something someone does for an afternoon out. I don't personally know anybody that's ever done it. This is where people find out that Audacity Projects can be thousands of different files in multiple fol...

Re: when amplifying, does recording degrade?
Normalize and Amplify do similar jobs. They adjust levels so that the highest level in any one performance goes to a set level. Normalize adjusts each side independently, Amplify adjusts them both together. The tools are very simple minded. They do not adjust volume except as an accident and all you...

Re: Recording With A Guitar Amplifier?
Basic mismatch. The generic Mic-In of a laptop is very sensitive and good for a low level mono computer microphone like a Skype headset. You're providing a Stereo, high level signal from the amplifier, so no. That generally doesn't work. You are listening to just shy of a thousand times overload ins...

Re: Adjust volume over several recordings
Seriously large shows are Very, Very, Very Messy. When was the last time you defragmented your hard drive? Audacity will not work into a badly fragmented hard drive. Error check while you're in there. You are probably going to run into the Windows 2GB and 4GB size restrictions and that WAV files wil...

Re: when amplifying, does recording degrade?
I personally would be looking for the real problem. If you turn off the "good" channel, is the remaining one crisp and clear and just a little low, or is it muffled and distorted and low? Can you check the stylus for cat hairs or other damage? Amplify doesn't introduce any significant dama...

Re: Dissapearing Audio
You're working on a Project or you Saved a Project, right? Projects are not sound files. Audacity will not save a sound file. An Audacity Project creates your show from all the millions of components and snippets and small sound files on your computer. Did you notice that all the missing pieces are ...

Re: Higher-frequency analysis
Don't confuse sample rate with sound quality. Sound quality is determined from your lips through the microphone, mic placement, room echoes, etc. etc. Once your voice signal hits the digital converter the computer has to chop it up into pieces and that's where sample rate comes in. 44100 is the samp...
