I think the sound meters may be a different size, but the stereo show should look a lot like that. Are you in Audacity 1.3? You never actually said those English words.

I wonder if you didn't get a damaged install. Remove Audacity and pull down a fresh version and start over. We tell people that in spite of all the dire warnings, most people should be using Audacity 1.3. Try 1.3 first. If you don't like it, you can install 1.2 without removing 1.3.
