Does it look more or less like that...

I think the sound meters may be a different size, but the stereo show should look a lot like that. Are you in Audacity 1.3? You never actually said those English words.

<<<Yes, I think it was not nice of Apple to hide unprintable characters in TextEdit, with no option to reveal them.>>> Good to know, although it could be argued that the "failure" is suggested by the name. The characters aren't "text." What happens if you grep the file in termina...

Re: imported MP3 skips
Control-Click > Open With > QuickTime. Apple-I for the info panel. Does the song play in QUickTime? Does the INFO panel agree that it's an MP3 file? We keep beating on this because this is a very common error. "My MP3 file will not play," almost always means it's not an MP3 file. Many Wind...

You may not have needed FFMpeg. I think one of the more modern Audacity versions understands Windows Media directly. I could be wrong. <<<What I'd like to know is what combination of installs and locating will work consistently on a computer lab of Dells running XP?>>> Locating...what? I can't get t...

Do you actually Need Projects? Would Exporting A WAV file work just as well? Projects are for people creating multi-channel shows with hundreds of sound clips and effects and a cast of thousands. Is that you? I do capture, edit, cleaning, conversion and management in Audacity every week -- sometimes...

Re: telephone recording
There was a poster on here that's using conferencing services to regularly produce a three or four way podcast show with no apparent difficulties. He posted about echoes and other "room noise" problems. I told him everybody need to wear headphones or earbuds. That should take care of echoe...

Re: Preference Problems
I wonder if you didn't get a damaged install. Remove Audacity and pull down a fresh version and start over. We tell people that in spite of all the dire warnings, most people should be using Audacity 1.3. Try 1.3 first. If you don't like it, you can install 1.2 without removing 1.3.

Re: Mp3 stereo to mono
Do the files play OK right now? They don't play at 5000 times normal speed? Step one. Install Audacity 1.3. You can have both Audacity versions on your machine as long as you don't use both at once. http://audacityteam.org/download/ Open one of the songs. Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono. Export new so...
