Re: Recording a meeting directly to MP3
<<<Am I correct that I need a different product than Audacity>>> Yup. Audacity is an Audio Editorial Production Environment Manager. It doesn't do anything in real time but capture (to buffers) and play back (from buffers) and it works internally at very high quality uncompressed format. You need an...

Re: Audacity Freezes when I stop recording
<<<I have reinstalled audacity.>>> Did it ask you "English?" when you relaunched it after the install? If it didn't, you didn't reinstall Audacity. The major part of Audacity (in 1.2) is held in Registry Settings and not the actual program. They can get stuck and drag bad behavior from ver...

Re: Mp3 stereo to mono
Auto Select All is checked and when I load the stereo piano clip, it lets me mix to mono with no selection, highlighting, or focus.

Re: Tin can sounding recording
Can we assume it sounds fine with headphones plugged into the mixer? Chances are the Windows machine is recording the performance more than once and the slight delay is creating the distortion. You need to dig around inside the Windows Control Panels and see if you can figure out what happened. You ...

<<<am VERY new to this program >>>
And the forum. Since you didn't post in a portion of the forum that automatically tells us stuff about your computer, you'll have to do it now. Mac? DeskSide? Linux? I'm going out and buy your computer. What do I buy?

Re: How Many Audacitys?
1.3 > 2.0
1.3 > 1.4
The reason developers go to the next higher version is to signify a serious, clean break. Otherwise they'd just have gone with Stable 1.4.

Re: Need a Mic
It's practically guaranteed you're going to go off in another creative direction and spending any more than that on a first microphone will be a waste. "OK, now I need a microphone for my banjo..." "I'm singing harmony with three other people..." "How do I plug my guitar int...

Re: Need a Mic
I think I'd probably start with a LogiTech USB headset. Stereo ear muffs and boom microphone. If you place the microphone just right, you can get good pickup without breath popping and other proximity effects. They can be very good with room noise. They tend to be bright and live, but you can tame t...

Re: Input slider disabled with USB input device?
Does this device use ASIO software drivers? Audacity doesn't directly support ASIO.
Does the device driver or software package have a control panel? The Analog to Digital converters are inside the USB device and sometimes getting useful control is very amusing.
