Re: Playthrough
I've been known to use a "Y" cable so that the record player's sound is available both to the computer for recording and a pair of headphones. You are warned not to connect and disconnect the headphones during the performance and, of course, you can't change the volume, but it's good for r...

Re: Muting / Unmuting
Also, dig in the Audacity Preferences > Keyboard for a shortcut key. I didn't find one for "mute," but I didn't look very hard. I found one for Mute-All, but that's not what you want.

Re: Feedbcak on recordings
You can get feedback during a capture by having the speakers up so loud that they interfere with the needle and cartridge. I have personally done that. But much more likely is you're not recording what you think you are. Mess about in the Windows Control Panel and make sure you're not recording Mix-...

<<<Amplify an entire album side and you might as well have not exported the WAV at all >>> Until you or the computer does something silly and the Project goes face-first into the mud. What I will be doing is cleaning up the machine and launching the captured WAV file (ElvisInHawaii-Side_A.wav) and s...

Re: Exporting Problems
Not to mention multiple files on your desktop need to be managed by the screen manager which slows the computer down slightly for each icon. Slow computers and live picture or sound are incompatible. I personally would capture one whole side of a record and export the whole thing as one WAV file. Th...

I swear we had one poster who found a way to use the footpedal. Search the forum for "transcription."

Re: Making 1 cd length track from 2 sides cassette
Music CDs do not carry song titles. If you're in iTunes and put a Music CD in your Mac, iTunes will look up the song titles on GraceNote or other network naming service. iTunes will seem to be reading the titles from the disk, but it's not. It's guessing at it based on the order and character of the...
